Hart Receives $76,446 Federal Grant
Department of Homeland Security Funding will Finance the Replacement of 15 Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus Units
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Hart Area Fire Department has received a $76,446 Assistance to Firefighters Grant from the Department of Homeland Security to purchase 15 self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) units plus 2 Rapid Intervention Team packs, and training materials for the new equipment.
"The new modern equipment will greatly help to improve the effectiveness and safety of Hart Area Fire Department first responders," said U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Holland. "They regularly place themselves in harm's way to voluntarily protect the local community from threats to its well-being."
The Hart Area Fire Department covers Hart, Golden and Weare townships, as well as the city of Hart. The SCBA units include the air tanks, masks and harnesses that firefighters use when responding to fires. The SCBA units include numerous built in safety features that were not present on previous SCBA units.
"The new equipment will serve as a significant upgrade to our department, as well as the surrounding departments that we assist," Fire Chief Ken Klotz said. "The federal grant is a welcome investment in the health and safety of our firefighters, who routinely risk their health and safety to protect ours."
