The Hart Area Fire Administrative Board plans to purchase the fire station from the city in order to make capital improvements, according to Hart City Manager Rob Splane.
The city has agreed to sell the building located on State Street to the fire board for $1. The city council will take formal action on the purchase agreement at its next regular meeting Tuesday, Sept. 28.
Capital improvements totaling $230,000 include a new roof, re-doing the parking lot and expanding the fire barn into the south lot, said Splane.
The fire barn, built in the late 1970s, was purchased with a grant and $20,000 of city funds. The city was reimbursed through a series of payments included in a lease agreement.
“The fire department would like to do capital improvements, but would rather own it outright before doing improvements,” said Splane. The city will remit the property back to the fire department. The property would then go back to the city if the fire department ever moved out of the city limits, he added.
